Dagupan registers highest net surplus ever

Posted on May 7, 2015

DAGUPAN CITY, May 7 (PNA)–The City Accounting Office (CAO) has certified that for the first time, Dagupan registered more than Php53 million net surplus which is the highest ever recorded in the city’s fiscal history.

This was disclosed by City Budget Officer Luz De Guzman who admitted that the surplus certified by City Accountant Ma. Teresita Manaois was on account of the cost-cutting measures and enhanced collection of taxes implemented without tax increase by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez from the time she assumed office in 2013.

“Our City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara reported that with our enhanced collection of taxes in the city, we have exceeded the estimated collection in 2014 from the estimated income of Php628 million to Php645,693,549.95 as actual collection,” de Guzman said.

On the other, she said, the city saved Php35,918,653.10 from various offices as a result of the cost-cutting measur Ed implemented by Mayor Belen in reducing the cost of overtime pay and other office expenses”.

She said the total net surplus therefore is Php53,612,203.05, which could be spent for more projects in the city.

The amount will cover the cost of several infrastructure projects due to be implemented this year like the Women Center; the construction of 4-storey evacuation center at Barangay Salapingao; the construction of sanitary toilets in Pugaro and Calmay; the elevation of roads and drainage system in Pantal, Puelay and Caranglaan;

the construction of Multi-Functional Covered Court Gymnasium at Dagupan City National High School; the construction of 3-storey 9 classrooms School Building for Senior High School, purchase of various heavy equipment and motor vehicles, additional MOOE and capital outlay for various offices and the milestone anniversary bonus for qualified officials and employees of the city.
