MANILA, April 22 (PNA) — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is arranging the second visit of the family of Filipino death row convict Mary Jane Veloso to Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
“At the initiative of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, arrangements have been made by the Department of Foreign Affairs to accommodate the request of Mary Jane Veloso for her family to visit her in Indonesia,” a DFA statement on Wednesday said.
Any delays on the trip, the DFA said, was brought about by “personal engagements of the family.”
Veloso was sentenced to death for smuggling 2.6 kilograms of heroin in 2010, but Manila is appealing her case in a bid to commute the verdict to life imprisonment.
“The Philippine Government stands ready to assist Ms. Veloso in meeting with her loved ones as part of its efforts to assist her,” the DFA said. (PNA)
