BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, April 20 (PNA) — Representative Carlos Padilla said the number of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) who are pursuing college education in the province has increased because of the establishment of high schools in their communities.
“Long time a go, only two or three elementary graduates pursue their secondary education because of the absence of secondary schools near their barangays. They have to walk for hours before reaching the nearest school then,” he said.
This situation has discouraged many parents and their children from continuing secondary education until the establishment of such schools closer to them.
At present, Padilla said there are already more than 45 secondary schools which were established in upland barangays of Nueva Vizcaya where most IPs live.
These secondary schools, he said were created through a series of bills in Congress and further became laws or known as Republic Acts. (PNA)
