DTI’s Domingo, SM’s Sy-Coson to speak at WEF East Asia

MANILA, April 16 (PNA) — Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory L. Domingo and SM Investment Corporation Vice Chair Teresita Sy-Coson are among Filipinos that will be speaking at the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 19 to 21, 2015.

Domingo will join the interactive session on Mapping the Geo-economic Landscape to identify implications of the interplay between geopolitics and economics in East Asia.

The session also aims to assess resilience of economic interdependence and regional trade, share cross-industry perspectives on emerging geopolitical trends, and explore opportunities to deepen multi-stakeholder diplomacy.

Other leaders in the said session are South Korea’s Vice Minister of Foreign affairs Cho Tae-Yul, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Singapore’s The Abraaj Group Partner Omar Lodhi, and Cambodia’s Senior Minister of Commerce Sun Chanthol.

Sy-Coson, who is also a Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum on East Asia, will join the session on Connecting ASEAN: The Last Mile to identify the role of businesses and institutions fulfill the remaining targets for an effective ASEAN Economic Community.

The session will also tap issues on eliminating non-tariff barriers and streamlining trade facilitation, narrowing income disparities to ensure equitable development, managing intra-regional competition for labor, capital and investment, and improving coordination between government and business.

In this session, other speakers include AirAsia CEO Anthony F. Fernandes, Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia Mustapa Mohamed, and Geneva-based International Organization for Migration Director General William Lacy Swing.

Aside from Domingo and Sy-Coson, Presidential Management Staff Chief Julia Andrea R. Abad and IdeaSpace Foundation President Earl M. Valencia will be speaking at an interactive session Connect on Game-Changers in East Asia while Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy President Amina Zalmia Bernardo will be joining the session on Connect on the New Asian Citizen to discuss the new frontier of democracy and political engagement in East Asia.
