Lapu-Lapu City sets up command center, to install more CCTV cams before Apec Summit

Posted on April 11, 2015

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu, April 11 (PNA) — The Lapu-Lapu City government will set up a command center that will help address concerns during emergencies and disasters.

Andy Berame, deputy officer of the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), said they would install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the city before Cebu’s hosting of some of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) 2015 Summit meetings in August and September.

Berame said the budget for the installation of cameras was around Php 10 to Php 15 million.

Cebu will host the third Senior Officials’ meeting and related gatherings between Aug. 24 and Sept. 8 and the Finance and Structural Reforms ministerial meetings from Sept. 9 to 13.

The following month, Cebu will also be the venue for the Transportation and Energy ministerial meetings.

“We are still studying the different proposals from CCTV suppliers,” Berame said.

“The command center will be located at the second floor of the City Hall, adjacent to the communication office of CDRRMC,” he said.

Berame said the installation of CCTVs in the city would help boost investors’ confidence in the city’s peace and order.

Among the major areas where the cameras will be put up include the street junctions of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and Marcelo Fernan Bridge, as well as the airport road, public markets in Barangay Poblacion and Barangay Gun-ob, and the Marigondon intersection.

Berame said CCTVs would also be installed in tourist spots, such as the Mactan Shrine.

He said they targeted areas where high concentration of people were expected.(PNA)
