MANILA, March 31 (PNA) — There is a mobile museum touring the country (by requests) where traditions, arts and technology surrounding the rice farming actually meet.
This is the Rice Science Mobile Museum—where city dwellers living far and away from the country’s rice granaries—will have the chance to feel history by trying traditional pounding tools that separate rice grains from husks.
First time in Romblon, students, farmers, faculty members and even local leaders trooped to the Rice Mobile Museum which has been on display since last week at the Romblon State University (RSU) – Main Campus in Odiongan town in time for the university’s centennial celebration.
“The Rice Science Museum, as an institution dedicated to inculcating cultural appreciation and supporting scientific development of rice in the Philippines, should educate and inspire Filipinos through the platform of the museum. Since the Philippines is an archipelagic and multi-cultural country, we aim to make this service accessible through the Rice Science Mobile Museum, travellin to various parts of the country like Romblon,” said Sophie Marie Cuevas of Philrice.
One of the interesting exhibits at the mobile museum is the the collection of seed samples both traditional and modern varieties: a tangible rice seed catalogue for farmers who needed references for their next planting activities.
The small model of the PhilRice windmill water pump, another crowd drawer in the exhibit, is the institute’s way of incorporating renewable energies in their technologies.
“From the displays, we expect the visitors to learn how to appreciate the rich cultural heritage stemming from rice cultivation. The display also aims to inspire the youth and also the farmers about the potential of the rice through the development of new technologies: from equipment to techniques to the seeds. Lastly, through the mix of visual and interactive elements, we hope to impress the visitors with the creative heights that can be achieved when rice is fully appreciated, “Ms. Cuevas said.
The Rice Science Mobile Museum exhibit at the RSU ends today.
