KALIBO, Aklan, March 31 (PNA)– The National Museum, together with the Department of Tourism, officially opened the Mini Museum at Barangay Tigayon here Monday.
Geovanni Bautista, museum researcher of the National Museum, said that they would help promote the museum as a tourism destination.
“We will also help the local government declare the site as a national protected area,” said Bautista.
The museum structure was built with the support of the Department of Tourism (DoT). The local tourism office said that it is now temporary offering the museum free of charge for tourists.
Last September 2014, Bautista along with several others, started excavation of at least two of the several caves in Tigayon Hill. The researchers discovered not only artifacts but also rare beads.
Contents of the Mini Museum include broken Chinese tradeware ceramics, human and animal bones, pottery shreds, lithic materials, among others.
“The rare Cornelian Bead we found in the excavation site is still at the National Museum in Manila for study. We will return the bead to Kalibo in due time,” said Bautista.
The Mini Museum was launched as part of the new tourism lure of Kalibo this summer. The DoT is confident that the Mini Museum would boost the tourism lure of Kalibo.(PNA)
