President Aquino reminds concerned agencies to assure safety of public during Holy Week

MANILA, March 27 (PNA) – President Benigno Aquino on Friday has directed the concerned agencies to assure the safety and convenience of the public going to the provinces during the Holy Week celebration.

”The reminders and instruction of the President to the government agencies are to assure the safety and convenience of the people who will be going to the provinces during the Holy Week,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message.

Coloma said the President has also directed the government agencies to put in order the bus terminals, ports and airports as well as all the public transportations.

”The President has also directed to put up public assistance desks in the terminals to make sure that public service for thousands of travelers are available,” Coloma said.

For the Toll Regulatory Board, the President directed them to assure smooth and orderly payment of toll fee in major expressways.

The President said the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and its attached agencies should make sure that there are enough numbers of public vehicles and no overloading particularly the ships.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has also been directed to assure that all roads are clear and safe for all public vehicles.

Coloma said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has also been directed to set up well-manned public assistance centers in strategic areas.

The Department of Health (DOH) and all public hospitals have also been ordered to be ready in all emergencies in case of accidents.

Coloma said the President reminded energy officials to make sure that there are enough power supply.

”The President also reminded the travelling public to take care and follow all the instructions, be calm and do not leave their homes unsafe. They should also bring emergency kits,” Coloma said. (PNA)
