MANILA, March 26 (PNA) — House Committee on Labor Chairman and Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles said on Thursday that President Benigno S. Aquino III has already spoken his piece on the Mamasapano incident and it is time for the nation to move on instead of trying to “further squeeze blood from stone.”
Nograles stressed that President Aquino’s speech during the graduation rites of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) should be the last of him explaining his role in the police raid that led to the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos last Jan. 25.
“I think that this should be the end of it. The President has spoken far too much about what he knows and about his limited involvement in the encounter in Mamasapano. He has opened himself up to the Filipino people, and in the spirit of transparency and honesty has said all there is that he can really say about it. All his statements appear to be consistent,” Nograles explained.
“Let no one attempt any further to squeeze blood from stone. The President has said his piece and it is time for our nation to move on, and concentrate on seeking justice for the 44 SAF and their families, plug the loopholes and fix the weaknesses in our present peace mechanism, and institutionalize the reforms needed to ensure lasting peace in Mindanao and the country,” he added.
