MANILA, March 17 (PNA) — Consumer awareness level of Filipinos has reached its highest in two years according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
In an e-mail, DTI said the latest survey of polling body Pulse Asia shows that level of consumer awareness reached 81 percent in 2014, its highest since 2012.
“Latest results from Pulse Asia commissioned by DTI shows rating of 81 [percent] in level of consumer awareness — the highest since 2012,” said DTI.
In 2012, level of consumer awareness of basic consumer rights was at 71.75 percent while the total consumer welfare index was at 57.4 percent. Consumer welfare index include perception of consumers that prices are reasonable and products are safe in the country aside from consumer awareness level.
Report from the department’s Corporate Planning Service showed that consumer awareness in 2013 fell to 66 percent then went back to 71-percent level in 2014.
The DTI continues to conduct consumer welfare campaign nationwide to strengthen consumer rights and responsibilities.
“It is a survey to measure the effectiveness of the DTI programs and activities. It is a check system from, no less than the target stakeholders, the consumers… Regarding higher awareness, it means consumers know their rights and responsibilities,” DTI Consumer Protection Group undersecretary Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba said in a text message.
“We always strive for higher performance as our commitment,” Dimagiba noted. (PNA)
