MANILA, March 14 (PNA) — Team Energy Corp.’s 1,200-megawatt (MW) Sual coal-fired power plant returned to its full capacity Saturday, after finishing the repair works on its Unit 1.
“Sual Unit 1 declared fully available at 3:23 a.m. today (Saturday),” Team Energy Corp. Senior Manager for External Affairs Gregory Romualdez told PNA in a text message Saturday.
The Pangasinan-based coal-fired power plant went on outage Friday morning due to the disrupted supply of coal to its boiler.
Its 2nd 600-MW unit has been restored earlier on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Team Energy, a joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power Company and Marubeni Corp., initially planned to return two units online on Friday, hours after it caused brownouts in Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco’s) franchise from 9:59 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. on Friday.
Sual, the biggest power plant in Luzon, provides a huge fraction of the island’s power supply needs.
Its return online is timely with the Malampaya Shutdown scheduled from March 15 to April 15 and the projected high power demand during the summer. (PNA)
