2015 infra projects on track in central Leyte

Posted on March 14, 2015

TACLOBAN CITY, March 14 (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 2nd engineering district (DPWH 2nd LED) said their office is on track in the implementation of P1.17 billion regular infrastructure projects this year.

Carlo Veloso, 2nd LED district engineer, said 95 regular infrastructure projects have been bidded out and 15 percent of these projects are now underway.

Of the 95 projects, 45 percent of which have already been obligated by the office, the official added.

More than P600 million of the P1.17 billion funds are earmarked for projects to be implemented by the 2nd LED, while more or less P500 million worth of other projects will be implemented by the DPWH regional office.

Up for construction and upgrading for 2015 are the P30-million Bagahupi-Babatngon-Barugo-Carigara Road, P50-million Burauen-Albuera Road, P40-million Jaro-Dagami-Burauen-Lapaz Road, P40-million Dulag-Julita-Burauen Road.

Also included are P40-million Burauen-Mahagnao Road, P17-million Jaro-Dagami-Burauen-Lapaz Road, P50-million Lapaz-Javier-Bito Road, P25-million flood control projects in Pastrana and Carigara towns, P75-million tourism road projects in Dulag and Lapaz towns.

Local infrastructure projects previously funded through the Priority Development Assistance Fund of House of Representatives are included in this year’s budget.

Also, P134 million has been earmarked for school buildings, health facilities, multi-purpose buildings and local road projects in central Leyte.

Meanwhile, the regional office will implement bigger-budget projects such as the P218-million Palo-Carigara-Ormoc road, P279 million for repair of a major highway that links Tacloban City and Ormoc City, and P71 million for the Bagahupi-Babatngon-Barugo-Carigara road.

Veloso said they could even further fast track implementation of the projects as the summer season begins. (PNA)
