MANILA, March 11 (PNA) — Broadband revenues of Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) rose to Php 12.7 billion last year, up by 22 percent from Php 10.4 billion in 2013, making the telco still the leader in broadband business.
Globe announced this latest feat Wednesday owing its revenue performance to the continued aggressive acquisitions campaigns and new competitive bundled plans launched throughout the year.
Aside from the revenue growth, the telco’s broadband customer base also posed a 37 percent increase from two million a year earlier after customers reached nearly 2.8 million at the end of 2014.
Fixed broadband and wireless broadband business booked customer uptake growth of 16 percent and 42 percent, respectively.
Gilbert Simpao, Globe Senior Vice President for Consumer Broadband Business, in a statement welcomed this development, noting that broadband remained a key growth driver for the telco.
Furthermore, he said that the introduction of more affordable products and competitive tablet bundles throughout the year and the expanded pervasiveness of the fixed and wireless broadband network stimulated the robust performance of our broadband business in 2014.
He meanwhile expressed confidence that Globe would sustain its growth trajectory moving forward as it continued to develop innovative and relevant products and services for its customers.
At present, the telco continues to upgrade its network capacity and expand its LTE TDD (Long-Term Evolution Time-Division Duplex) and LTE-FDD (Long-Term Evolution Frequency-Division Duplex) footprint to strengthen its mobile data infrastructure and deliver faster and more reliable wireless internet connectivity.
Globe said that this involves activation of more than 4,300 cell sites with the LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD ultra broadband access technologies for a more pervasive LTE coverage.
The LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD technologies offer higher bandwidth, which enhances speed of data transfer, provides lower latency and increases overall network capacity. (PNA)
