KALIBO, Aklan, March 5 (PNA)– The local government of Kalibo will officially launch the Tigayon Hill on March 19 as the new tourism destination here.
Rhea Rose Meren, Kalibo tourism officer, said that the Department of Health (DOH) and the local government have jointly initiated a Php2.3 million for the development of the Tigayon Hill.
Last year, a team coming from the National Museum recovered artifacts from the caves of the Tigayon Hill that include a jewel. The gathered artifacts would be displayed at the Kalibo Museum to be opened in Tigayon.
“We are opening the said new tourism facility in time for the upcoming Holy Week,” according to Meren.
For several years, Catholic devotees in the province flock to the Tigayon Hill being a local pilgrimage site during Holy Week.
Based on the data analysis of the Kalibo tourism, aside from the famous Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival, there are two major tourism sites in Kalibo, the Kalibo museum and the Bakhawan Eco-Park.
In 2014, the National Museum attracted a total of 3,065 foreign and local tourists while the Bakhawan Eco-Park registered 30,577.
Foreign travelers in Kalibo came from China, Korea, USA, Germany, Russia, Sweden Germany, France, Malaysia and Singapore, Taiwan, and Australia among others.
“We are confident that our tourism will further grow with the promotion of the Tigayon Hill as the new tourism destination in Kalibo,” said Meren.(PNA)
