ILOILO CITY, March 4 (PNA) — The business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in this city presently employs some 10,540 workers and still looking for 5,000 qualified individuals.
Joeven C. Tansi, deputy executive director of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (I-FIT), said that to date, there are at least 22 registered BPO firms in Iloilo with the opening of StarTek and Reeds Elsiever at the Megaworld Business Center during the last quarter of 2014.
“Iloilo is still a hot ground for BPOs and currently looking for qualified manpower,” he said.
Tansi said that teachers who will be possibly displaced due to the K to 12 program may opt to find employment in the industry.
He also expressed hope for philanthropists who are interested to provide training scholarships for individuals who are interested to work in the industry.
There are also potential companies that have been considering Iloilo as location for their expansion but their names could not be disclosed as of the moment. (PNA)
