Globe partners with Huawei to be the first telco to adopt the SingleSON solution

Posted on March 2, 2015

MANILA, March 2 (PNA) — Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) announced on Monday that it has formalized its newest collaboration with a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, Huawei.

Globe said that it has partnered with Huawei for the pioneering SingleSON (self-organizing network) solution deployment to optimize its wireless network performance, operation and maintenance (O&M).

The telecommunications firm explained that this solution will enable it to manage the explosive growth and development of mobile data services traffic, which is foreseen to continue into the next decade.

As the first operator in the world to deploy Huawei’s SingleSON, Globe noted that this development will allow them to effectively manage a more complex network and deliver on its promise of superior customer experience.

Globe Chief Technical Adviser Robert Tan described the capabilities of the SingleSON solution as “impressive” in improving Globe’s O&M efficiency and performance.

“It will allow us to continuously deliver a great user experience without additional manpower resources to manage an increasingly more complex network,” Tan said in a statement.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Huawei on the development of the SingleSON solution, and we look forward to work with them on new, innovative solutions under our strategic partnership framework,” he added.

President of Huawei SingleOSS Product Line Jiang Wangcheng, meanwhile, expressed enthusiasm to provide Globe with its solution to enhance the state of their network O&M.

“The SingleSON technology will be further developed and enhanced with the development of future-oriented 4.5G, 5G, and other advanced wireless communications technologies,” Wangcheng said.

“In this regard, we will continue providing innovative solutions to our customers in order to help them operate more efficiently and deliver a wonderful customer experience,” the official added.

Huawei will leverage on its technological leadership in radio access network research and development to launch the innovative SingleSON solution to enable Globe to operate an increasingly more complex and intelligent network.

The solution was recently tested live on the Globe mobile network’s 20,000 2G, 3G and 4G cells – the largest deployment thus far for Huawei SingleSON.

According to Globe, the performance of the solution achieved remarkable results and exceeded expectations with immediate improvement on both drop call rates as well as users’ throughput.

It also exhibited better sharing of radio resources between layers and technologies. Given these excellent outcomes, Globe said it plans to deploy the SingleSON solution nationwide in 2015. (PNA)
