TACLOBAN CITY, Feb. 26 (PNA) — The SM Group turned over Thursday a newly completed school building to Tacloban City National High School in this city’s Bagacay village.
The project is the sixth of its kind in areas flattened by super typhoon Yolanda in partnership with SM Prime Holdings, Inc.; Banco De Oro (BDO) Foundation, Inc.; and SM Foundation, Inc.
“This will not only provide conducive place for learning, but a place for them to create memories,” said Carmen Linda M. Atayde, executive director of SM Foundation, Inc. education program.
School principal Josefina Tanciongco said the SM Group project is a good start as it encouraged others to donate to their school. “This is really a blessing and this will motivate children to study.”
The two-storey four classroom school building has toilets, 200 pieces of armchairs, four sets of teacher’s table and chair, four blackboards, and 16 pieces wall fans.
The SM Foundation started its school building program in 2002. By 2013, the Foundation has already constructed and donated 56 school buildings with 140 classrooms in communities nationwide. The Foundation also handles the regular maintenance of the buildings.
Earlier, the SM Group has constructed school buildings in Yolanda-hit communities in northern Cebu, Capiz, Aklan, Eastern Samar, and Leyte. (PNA)
