MANILA, Feb. 26 (PNA) — Visiting French President François Hollande assured to help the Philippines in its future developments to be more resilient against climate change.
Talking to Filipino and French businessmen in a Makati Business Club’s (MBC) Forum at Fairmont Hotel, Makati City on Thursday, Hollande said his visit to the country aims to strengthen the partnership between the Philippines and France and to encourage the business community to address climate change issues that will support the economic growth of the two nations.
“We’re here together to talk about economy and also to talk about climate change because both goals cannot be dealt separately,” Hollande said.
“Climate change can be deterrent to (the growth) of our economy,” he added.
Hence, in order for the Philippines to continue its robust economic growth, the country should have sustainable development particularly in areas of infrastructure and renewable energy.
Hollande added that these sustainable developments will need an investment of over US$ 100 billion.
“This is where France can stand by you. France can stand by you when you needed to find these resources,” the French President stressed.
He further mentioned that sustainable development is crucial for the Philippines as the country’s growth is attracting different companies around the globe, including French companies.
“We can always use this [partnership] to develop more growth, to generate more wealth and jobs,” he said.
“Together with President (Benigno) Aquino (III), we decided to strengthen yet further our partnership… Building bridges between developed and emerging countries,” Hollande stated.
Meanwhile, Hollande will meet the Philippine President Thursday evening at Malacañan Palace. He is scheduled to go to Guiuan, Eastern Samar on Friday to visit super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) battered areas. (PNA)
