Coup d’ etat has no place in Bicol

Posted on February 24, 2015

By Nancy Ibo Mediavillo

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 24 (PNA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP)leadership in Bicol has strongly said that there is no place for coup d’ etat in the Bicol Region.

Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, PNP Bicol police director, made the remark amid rumors of a coup against the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III as a result of the tragic death of the Fallen 44 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Deona claimed it will never happen under his leadership as the morale of his men in the region is very high.

Although they mourn, they still go on with their duties, he said.

“We will not participate in any extrajudicial moves. This is very clear among the rank-and-file officers and unit commanders. We have our job to do and let us not get distracted,” the PNP regional head said.

Deona said the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officers and men in Bicol have a very strong coordination and cooperation.

Their interoperability operations are continuous and their respective unit commanders have access to their forces.

Meanwhile, Deona said, the regional police office is now readying for the Sangguniang Kabataan national election on April 21.

In fact, he said, the PNP Bicol and the AFP regional command will have a joint meeting with the regional director of the Commission on Elections in Bicol.

Deona said this is part of the initial preparation of the PNP and AFP for a clean, orderly and peaceful SK election.

He said they will tackle the places in the region that would possibly be under areas of concern or hot spots.

Deona said that it is also part of the strong and stable relationship between the PNP and the AFP.

The top regional police official said that in the previous elections, the PNP and the AFP in the region have always been a model in coordinative and collaborative efforts to give security to the state. These have resulted in successful inter-operability operations in the provinces of Camarines Sur and Masbate.

He said that this time, their preparation will be much earlier. (PNA)
