LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Feb. 14 (PNA)– A group of construction workers recovered Friday 566 pieces of vintage bombs while excavating a proposed site of the Philippine National Police (PNP) housing project in Bayambang town.
The bombs, which are now all rusting but were believed to be still lethal, were recovered by workers of the Bruno Construction, which is preparing the housing project for policemen at Barangay Zone 6 in Bayambang town.
These include 288 pieces of projectiles measuring 100 millimeter; five pieces of 90 mm. projectiles, 112 pieces of 75 mm. projectiles, 166 pieces of 65 mm. projectiles and five pieces of 30 mm. projectiles.
Personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Unit/Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) were called to retrieve the bombs and bring the bombs to the PNP provincial headquarters in Lingayen for disposition.
The bombs were believed left by the Japanese when they retreated eastward on their way to Kiangan, Ifugao where they made their last and final stand against allied soldiers and Filipino guerillas towards the end of World War II. (PNA)
