Meralco targets 27 projects for 2016 CAPEX application for ERC’s approval

MANILA, Feb. 9 (PNA) — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is targeting 27 projects for its 2016 Capital Expenditures (Capex) plan, according to its filed Capex application to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for 2016.

In a disclosure with the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) Monday, Meralco released their ERC application that listed 27 major Capex projects for 2016.

Some of the 27 Capex projects were located in Malacanang, Dasmarinas, Lucena, Navotas and Montalban.

It ranges from substations to switchgears, distribution lines and transformers.

The document said an advanced metering infrastructure — for the Kuryente-Load of Meralco — and its expansion was among the projects.

The 27 Capex projects was worth about Php6.1 billion.

Another 89 residual projects, comprising of electrical equipment, were listed in the ERC application.

Meralco explained this was for the 2016 expected growth of its peak demand at 3.8 percent.

Alongside the expected peak demand increase, Meralco’s customer base is forecast to hike by 2.91 percent.

Presently, Meralco has 5.6 million customers in its franchise, dominating electricity distribution in Luzon.

”This will require Meralco to increase the capacity of the electric distribution system in order to accommodate customer connections while maintaining the reliability and power quality of its distribution system,” it said. (PNA)
