LAOAG CITY, Feb. 5 (PNA) — Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP or provincial board) approved on Monday at least 100,000 peso cash to the fallen police commando from Ilocos Norte whose immediate family members greatly depend on him.
Sponsored by Vice Governor Angelo Marcos Barba and the committee of the whole of the ninth Sangguniang Panlalawigan, draft resolution no. 2015-01-104 was unanimously approved by the body, authorizing Governor Imee Marcos to donate at least 100,000 pesos chargeable under the budget of the governor’s office.
The amount is relatively small but the provincial government hopes it may somehow help the family in this most difficult time.
Through a separate resolution, the provincial board passed resolution no. 2015-01-106 on the same day to express the whole of the province’s mourning and sincerest condolences to the family as they acknowledge PO2 Omar Nacionales, a member of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (SAF) as a courageous son of the province, who has tragically risked his life in the “Oplan Wolverine” to capture two international terrorists on that fateful day of January 25, 2015 in Tukanalipao village, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
As of this posting, Ilocanos passing by a huge tarpaulin photo of PO2 Omar Nacionales hanging on the giant walls on the Provincial Capitol building with a black cloth while a number of flags fly at half mast in front of Capitol theme park could hardly imagine how the fallen SAF 44 sacrificed their lives to fulfill their mission.
According to the governor, the province will remain in mourning as Nacionales, a native of Escoda village in Marcos town will be buried today in a memorial garden in Luna, La Union where his wife Gae Ann Guiniling Nacionales resides. (PNA)
