MANILA, Jan 27 (PNA) — Sales of the cement industry for full-year of 2014 has increased by 9.6 percent year-on-year, said Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) President Ernesto M. Ordoñez.
Ordoñez mentioned that sales of cement producers in the local market at end-2014 reached 21,304,750 tons from end-2013’s figure of 19,444,990 tons.
Likewise, sales for the fourth quarter last year jumped by 15.7 percent to 5,211,719 tons from 4,503,144 tons in 2013.
The increase in sales of cement producers here in the previous year was supported by continuous growth of construction projects.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that construction activities in January to September 2014 amounted to Php272 billion from same period in 2013 which valued at Php196 billion — higher by 39 percent.
Non-residential projects had the largest amount of construction projects at Php143 billion while residential projects were pegged at Php108 billion in the first nine months last year. (PNA)
