MANILA, Jan. 25 (PNA) — To prevent a repeat of the bombing incident that left two persons dead and 52 others wounded at a parking lot in Barangay Guiwan, Zamboanga City, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday announced that it will help in ongoing checkpoint operations and other security measures being implemented by the Philippine National Police.
As this develops, AFP spokesperson Col. Restituto Padilla said that the bombing last Friday could be in retaliation for the foiled jail break attempt of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader Furuji Indaman’s brother at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center last Tuesday.
In that attempt, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology operatives prevented the breakout attempt of Bensar Indama after they discovered a .45 caliber pistol stashed at the jail premises.
“Our checkpoint (operations) and other security measures have been heightened while the investigation for the blast is still ongoing,” Padilla said in Filipino.
He added that all necessary security precautions will take place until the perpetrators of the blasts are identified and arrested. (PNA)
