GSIS-Iloilo donates educational equipment to remote school in Carles, Iloilo

Posted on January 21, 2015

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 21 (PNA) -– A public school located in a remote area of the island village of Carles, Iloilo is a recipient of educational equipment donated by the Iloilo branch of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

Dr. Eden Deriada, head of the education support services division of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas said that it was the first time for the Batoanan Elementay School to receive such kind of donation.

The turnover held recently was led by GSIS-Iloilo manager Eleanor Drilon and officials of DepEd.

The donation is composed of a complete set of large screen television, computer, Monobloc chairs and tables, LCD projector and DVD player valued at P200,000.

Deriada shared that officials of the recipient school were happy with the donation.

She said that they can now show educational films unlike before when the largest screen they used was that of their laptops.

Deriada said that they are pushing for GSIS to adopt the school so they can make a year-round donation or improvement of the educational facility.

“That will be a very good move of the GSIS to help the school,” she said.

She cited that in Roxas City, Capiz, the local branch of GSIS there also adopted one classroom of the President Manuel Roxas Memorial School that was badly damaged by typhoon Yolanda. (PNA)
