TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) — The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) has called on Leyte mayors to step up their support to the Roman Catholic Church in preparing for the visit of Pope Francis in the province on Saturday.
“There is a request that we actively enjoin our people to welcome the Pope since this is an opportunity of a lifetime to see the Pope when he visits our place. Heaven knows when he is going to come back,” said LMP Leyte chapter president and Javier town Mayor Leonardo Javier, during the recent meeting with local chief executives.
“Since he is coming, let us harness our power and ability as mayors in securing and the access of people to Pope,” he added.
Palo Archbishop John F. Du invited the mayors, their family and constituents to occupy the streets from Tacloban airport to Palo area to see the pontiff during the motorcade.
“If this visit is successful, it will reflect to the performance of our region and our province,” Javier added.
The LMP president believed that local chief executives have the authority to move, discipline, and invite their constituents to welcome the Church leader.
The 12-kilometer road sections that the Pope will pass through in a motorcade from the airport to Archbishop’s Residence in Arado village, Palo town is divided into 78 segments.
The segments are assigned for people who will serve as force multipliers composed of team leader, medical team, village watchmen, security personnel, food committee and transportation committee. (PNA)
