Bacolod artists, students pay tribute to Pope Francis thru mural painting, statement t-shirts

Posted on January 12, 2015

BACOLOD CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) — A group of artists and students in Bacolod created a 35-meter mural on the perimeter fence of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) here as a tribute to Pope Francis, who is visiting the Philippines from January 15-19.

The mural painting made of acrylic paint, a collective initiative of Dibuhista nga Naghiliugyon sa Negros (DIHON) artists and UNO-R students, was completed in three days.

Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem, property administrator of UNO-R, said the mural shows Pope Francis with the youth, taking a selfie and driving a pedicab.

“We involved the participation of the students and young people to help us create the beautiful mural,” he added.

Statement t-shirts with messages of Pope Francis are also being sold for Php190 each at UNO-R’s Heart Store.

Agustin Dineros Jakosalem, one of the artists, said the T-shirts are primarily intended for teachers and students who want to own Pope Francis collectibles.

Freshman Glydel Marie Pagdato said she feels blessed because even though she cannot see the Pope personally, she can at least have a souvenir with his image.

Bro. Jakosalem said they printed on the T-shirts the messages of the Pope that have an impact on the lives of the ordinary people especially the youth.

The T-shirts will be available even after the Papal visit, he added.(PNA)
