ILOILO CITY, Jan. 8 (PNA)- Two persons were killed and two others were injured after a sugarcane-laden cargo truck smashed a 10-wheeler truck in Brgy. Bacuranan, Passi City in Northern Iloilo on Wednesday.
Killed were Michael Jan Mandelejo, 21, of Brgy Dulay, Maasin, Iloilo and a 17-year-old teenager whose identity was not readily made available by the Passi City police.
Injured, on the other hand, were Harold Masesado, 29, and Rexie Mandelejo,21, both residents of Maasin town.
In its initial investigation, Passi City chief of police Supt. Hector Maestral said the speeding cargo truck, loaded with sugarcane, crashed into the parked 10-wheeler truck, pinning down the two victims who were seating on the front seat and injured two others as an aftermath of the strong impact.
He said the driver of the cargo truck, a certain alias “Willy” hastily fled after the bloody incident. He voluntarily surrendered to the Maasin Police Station in Maasin town for the proper disposition of the case. (PNA)
