DPWH bares 85.03% accomplishment in implementation of 2014 projects

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 7 (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the region has posted a positive slippage in the implementation of projects funded under its 2014 infrastructure program.

During the recent meeting with various business groups in the city here, DPWH regional director Edilberto Tayao said that the agency had achieved an 85.03 accomplishment rate, higher by 1.03 percent compared with the 84 percent target set by the national office.

The region was allotted Php 2.223 billion in 2014.

The highest share was given to Iloilo with Php 5.2 billion for 205 projects. As of Dec. 29, 2014, Tayao said that the accomplishment rate for Iloilo was at 85.04 percent with 147 projects already completed, 57 are ongoing while one has not yet started.

Meantime, Negros Occidental has 92.05 percent accomplishment for 158 projects with 133 already completed and 25 ongoing. The 158 projects for the province got a budget share of Php 3.465 billion.

Aklan, meanwhile has 29 projects worth Php 1.101 billion. Ten are still ongoing and 19 have been completed posting a 75.14 percent accomplishment rate.

Moreover, Antique with a fund share of Php 686.7 million, generated a 75.99 percent completion rate. Of the 20 projects proposed in the province, 16 are completed and four are still ongoing.

Capiz province has Php 1.161 billion fund for 43 projects. The completion rate was 76.62 comprising of 28 completed and 15 ongoing projects.

Guimaras was apportioned with a Php 618 million fund for 34 projects. Towards end of the 2014, 31 projects have been completed and three are ongoing with an accomplishment rate of 88.98 percent.

Tayao attributed the significant accomplishment to the collective efforts of their personnel and various project contractors that did well in the implementation of projects.

The regional director recently met with the various chapters of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in provinces that are recipients of the Coordinating Road and Infrastructure Investments for Development (CRID). The initiative is a project of the Asia Foundation with support from the Australian government.

During the meeting, Tayao briefed the attendees with the status of projects that were included in the Regional Development Infrastructure Plan (RDIP) and implemented in their respective provinces. (PNA)
