MANILA, Jan. 6 (PNA) -– Aboitiz Power Corporation will contribute 177 Megawatts (MWs) for the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) coming from its contestable customers and distribution utilities.

”Through these pledges, AboitizPower with its customers, can now contribute a total of 177 MW de-loading capacity to DOE’s Interruptible Load Program (ILP), to help alleviate the expected power shortage in the summer of 2015,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.

Aboitiz noted that as of Dec 2014, 42 contestable customers of Aboitiz Power’s Retail Electricity Supply (RES) companies have committed to the program a total of 102 MW de-loading capacity.

It added the companies consist both local and international firms, which include Procter and Gamble Philippines, Wyeth Philippines, Jollibee Foods Corp., Samsung Electro Mechanics Philippines Corp., Amkor Technology Phils., Asia Brewery Inc. and Monde Nissin Corp.

Moreover, the power company said it will add another 75 MW of de-loading capacity from their 38 customers in its distribution utilities, which are Visayan Electric Company (VECO), Subic Enerzone and Lima Enerzone.

The ILP works through establishments utilizing its generator sets, removing its dependency on the grid and re-routing the power to other areas.

Aboitiz Power President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Antonio Moraza said the company is committed in finding solutions to address the expected power supply deficit for the summer of 2015.

The company noted it aims to get more support for the program, through its RES and DU customers, including the Mactan and Balamban Enerzones. It may tap a potential 143 MW worth of additional de-loading capacity.

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) previously said it targets to complete an ILP count of 1,000 MW.

Meanwhile, Aboitiz Power Corporation is engaged in power generation and distribution in the country, operating 21 power plants nationwide, mainly in Luzon and Mindanao. (PNA)
