MANILA, Dec. 26 (PNA) — With rebel remnants celebrating their 46th founding anniversary Friday, the Eastern Mindanao Command warned the New People’s Army that it is prepared to defend the country should the latter instigate any violent attacks against the citizenry in honor of their founding day.
“The Eastern Mindanao Command has a clear mandate to defend the nation and the people should any group commit violent attacks against them,” Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Ezra Balagtey said in Filipino.
He also said that ranking leaders of the NPA should re-think their armed struggle as their conflict with the duly-elected government has caused nothing but suffering to the civilians and communities caught in the crossfire.
And since their armed struggle with the government has brought no good to the country, the NPAs should just rejoin mainstream society and help pursue its further development, Balagtey said.(PNA)
