MDG Christmas caravan to distribute Noche Buena packages to poor families in Ilocos Norte

Posted on December 17, 2014

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte, Dec. 17 (PNA) — A Christmas caravan packed with Noche Buena packages will be going around the province’s poorest villages to distribute gift items in time for the Yuletide season.

Initiated by the administration of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, the Millenium Development Goals program of the provincial government has identified about 2,741 poorest of the poor families in the different cities and municipalities of Ilocos Norte as recipients for this year’s MDG Christmas caravan.

Starting on Friday, the MDG team, led by the governor, will be visiting Pagudpud in the northernmost part of Ilocos Norte to hand over canned goods and various grocery items in time for Christians Noche Buena on Dec. 24.

The 4-day caravan will kick off at the Civic Center in Pagudpud town at 10 p.m. with at least 173 recipients from Pagudpud then the group will move to its Bangui, Dumalneg, Burgos and Pasuquin towns respectively.

Other recipients from Solsona, Dingras, Marcos, Nueva Era, Banna, Sarrat, Piddig, Carasi, Vintar, Bacarra, Laoag, Badoc, Pinili, Currimoa, Paoay, Batac and San Nicolas will receive their gift packs the following day or from Dec. 20 to 22.

The year-end activity is being undertaken by the provincial government in its effort to help less fortunate Ilocano households enjoy the yuletide celebration.

Aside from the distribution of food packs and grocery items in previous years, other recipients also received various ornamental plants, fish cages, aqua feeds, BHW kit, I-card books and toys for primary school children.(PNA)
