Free ongoing product design upscale and artistry development workshops at DCP

Posted on December 17, 2014

MANILA, Dec. 17 (PNA)– In time for the holidays and in preparation for 10-member Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) block’s competitive open market in 2015, the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP) is holding continuing one hour trends and one hour design consultations on the cutting edge of design, ideas, information and related product development activities.

”We have to upgrade to catch up with the times in terms of art, culture, business, design and technology because of the forthcoming free single market of products and ideas among the Asean and the more prosperous Asian countries,” said DCP’s executive Flor Pinlac.

Pinlac said DCP, for years has been holding free technology trainings and providing continuing educational design upscaling for gifts and houseware every first Monday, furniture and home accessories every second Monday, packaging and labeling for food and non-food every third Monday and fashion accessories every fourth Monday of the month.

But this time, there is more intense desire for trends briefing and design for manufacturers, exporters, student, hobbyists and the general public due to the wide national and international economic competition

The need for design as a creative art tool for quality, upscaling, enhancing and branding of Filipino products is a trend that should be sustained, emphasized Pinlac.

The fact that graduating industrial design students from College of St. Benilde, University of the East, University of the Philippines and other educational institutions proves are utilizing DCP’s offering means majority of our youth are deeply aware that they must be at par or much better than their contemporaries in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Existing products like jewelry, furniture and home accessories, gifts and housewares food and non-food and fashion accessories need trend briefings and design consultation to keep up with the fickle times.

Since the workshops are free and without age limit, families of overseas foreign worker(OFWs) and housewives and cooperative groups are encouraged to take advantage to take up design skills improvement by calling up tel.nos. 8321112 to 18 local 126 and 10.

However, manufacturers are requested to bring a photocopy of business registration, product packaging samples and/or product photos in case of furniture or bulky furnishings as basis for discussion.

Consultations may include the provision of design ideas with description. And manufacturers are advised to come 15 minutes before the appointed time to fill up Product Clinic forms.

For the packaging and labeling design services for food and non-food sector, assigned designer to present two or three concepts and one final design that is ready for printing—the cost of which is to be shouldered by the client.

The trends briefing are from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. while consultation hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (PNA)
