MANILA, Dec. 14 (PNA) — Most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have cloudy skies with light rains and slightly cooler-than-normal temperatures are expected because of the effects of the northeast monsoon and tail-end of a cold front, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday.
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the cold northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” is expected to bring cloudy skies with passing light rains in Northern Luzon.
He said the tail-end of a cold front, on the other hand, affecting Southern Luzon will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Panay Island and the provinces of Aurora, Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.
Aurelio said the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.
He added the low pressure area hovering over Eastern Visayas already dissipated early Sunday morning due to the presence of strong northeast monsoon.
He said that with the effects of northeast monsoon, a strong to gale force winds will cause rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon.
“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” PAGASA warned.
Aurelio said that the country will continue to be storm- free for the next two to three days as there is no weather disturbance seen near the Philippine area of responsibility that can develop into tropical cyclone.
In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
