MANILA, Dec. 10 (PNA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFRB) on Wednesday said that it will hold the second hearing on the petition for a jeep fare rollback on Thursday (Dec 11).
“The second hearing of the petition for (jeep) fare rollback is set tomorrow (Thursday) at 9 am,” LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said in a text message to the Philippines News Agency.
LTFRB held its first hearing on the jeep fare rollback last month.
Consumer groups sought a rollback in jeepney fares after after prices of diesel and other petroleum products continued to decline since October this year.
The LTFRB granted a Php 0.50-fare hike for jeeps last June. Before the fare hike, minimum fare was only at Php 8. Jeepney fare is currently pegged at Php 8.50 in Metro Manila.
LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez earlier said that the increase had to strike a balance between the rights of PUJ drivers and operators, and the rights of commuters who were mostly dependent on public transportation.
He said that like commuters, jeep drivers and operators also had needs that deserved to be taken into consideration. (PNA)
