Misamis Oriental governor convenes disaster management council

Posted on December 3, 2014

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Dec. 3 (PNA) – Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano ordered on Wednesday the provincial disaster council to review the protocols during emergency situations.

The order was part of the directive to members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDDRMC) to immediately convene as typhoon “Hagupit” threatens to lash Misamis Oriental on Friday.

Emano said that there is a need to review all the protocols like the preparation of the evacuation centers, food and medicine supplies, and making it sure that all other resources are ready.

Edmundo Pacamalan Jr., provincial administrator and head of the PDRRMC, said all necessary resources are already in place, especially the communication facilities.

“Our dump trucks and other heavy equipment are also ready to be deployed,” Pacamalan said.

He said that the PDRRMC is keeping a close watch on various areas in the province, which are prone to flooding and landslides.

“There are municipal towns in the province’s east and west districts which are susceptible to landslides and flooding. We are keeping a close watch on these areas,” Pacamalan said.

The local weather bureau plotted upcoming typhoon “Ruby” as of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to be about 1,500 kilometers east of Mindanao and is expected to be felt in Misamis Oriental on Thursday. (PNA)
