MANILA, Nov 27 (PNA) — Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada announced Thursday the suspension of classes and government work in Manila throughout the duration of Pope Francis’ visit from Jan. 15 to 19, 2015.
Executive Order No. 75, s.2014, issued by the Manila City government, suspends classes in all levels in universities, colleges, and schools (public and private) as “millions of people from all over the country are expected to come to Manila during the Papal Visit.”
The Manila Committee for the Papal Visit, the Manila Police District and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have recommended the declaration of a work holiday and suspension of classes to ensure public order, safety and convenience, the Order further stated.
On his four-day stay in the country, the Pope will be visiting the Manila Cathedral, the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and the residence of the Papal Nuncio in Manila. (PNA)
