Real Estate Brokers to rely on Project NOAH

Posted on November 2, 2014

MANILA, Nov 2 (PNA) – Real estate brokers will rely on Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (NOAH) for quality advice on their business transactions.

“Project NOAH is one great program that could provide real estate brokers the necessary tools and information that would ensure correct appraisal, solutions and recommendations to their clients,” Real Estate Brokers Association of the Philippines (REBAP) Greenhills Chapter President Arlyn V. Santos said in a statement.

She added that information from Project NOAH will help REBAP synchronized with the government’s efforts in disaster mitigation.

REBAP members take safety into consideration when offering real estate properties, highlighting that it can spell difference between making a deal or losing it.

For his part, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Science Research Specialist Alan C. Taule, assured that Project NOAH can help the REBAP community, through its various equipments.

”REBAP member companies can access flood hazard maps that show what areas are susceptible to flooding and what areas are not. With the use of light detection and ranging technology or LiDAR, Project NOAH’s Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) is able to produce high-resolution, 3D topographical maps,” Taule said.

The specialist also stated that the NOAH website is accessible due to its website, adding anyone can become hands-on forecasters.

Moreover, he added that historical data can be used by REBAP, as basis for land acquisition and development, as well as in implementing appropriate construction systems and engineering interventions to lessen the negative impact of natural disasters on current projects.

Aside from flood hazard maps, Taule pointed out that Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has hazard maps that show the fault system for the entire country. (PNA)
