DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 27 (PNA) -– Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo has expressed his sincerest gratitude to everyone for the successful holding of the province’s Buglasan Festival 2014 which officially concluded Sunday evening.
The governor noted that this year’s Buglasan Festival became a success due to the massive participation and cooperation of various sectors and the general public.
He thanked the different local government units, led by the respective mayors, of the towns and cities of the province, as well as civil society and the private sector for their help and contribution to make the Buglasan Festival more meaningful and vibrant this year.
According to the governor, he is thankful to the local officials for setting aside politics in taking part in the Buglasan, which has drawn local and foreign tourists alike to the province.
The Buglasan Festival is the province’s premier showcase of the different socio-cultural, economic and tourism attractions held every October.
It ran from October 17 to October 26, culminating with a grand fireworks display competition at the Rizal Boulevard in the province’s capital city of Dumaguete Friday evening.
One of the mainstays of the Buglasan is the festival of festivals, comprising a grand showdown and street dancing competition participated in by some towns and cities with their respective cultural contingents.
The LGUs also erected their individual booths at the grounds of the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park fronting the Capitol which became the center of majority of the Buglasan events.
Also highlighting the Buglasan Festival was the giving of the Outstanding Negrense Award to Atty. Marcelino Maxino (law and jurisprudence) and the same posthumous award to the late Bayawan City Mayor German Saraña (government service).
Governor Degamo also expressed satisfaction that the Buglasan Festival had benefited businesses, especially the small and medium entrepreneurs during the week-long festivities. (PNA)
