MANILA, Oct. 22 (PNA) — In light of the forthcoming national observance of Deaf Awareness Week in November, the Department of Education (DepEd) leads and encourages Special Education (SPED) Centers and deaf organizations to undertake a line-up of activities aimed at instigating awareness regarding deafness.
The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) will host this year’s celebration centered on the theme, “Healthy Ear: Advocacy and Responsibility” to be held on the second week of November.
For this year, the event’s activities will be conducted from Nov. 9 to 14.
The DepEd, through the Bureau of Elementary Education-Special Education (BEE-SPED), encourages all public, private, and special schools with Special Education (SPED) Center and programs to participate in the following activities: trade fair of products of the deaf and other persons with disabilities (PWDs), forum on employment for PWDs, art workshops for deaf students, training on justice and human rights of PWDs, and basic sign language orientation and spirituality of PWDs on the aforementioned dates.
The event is also in coordination with the Philippine Institute for the Deaf and the Philippine School for the Deaf. (PNA)
