BAGUIO CITY, October 21 (PNA) -– The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) with its 600 strong personnel, is continuously doing its best in maximizing police presence and in bringing in pre-emptive and preventive measures to minimize unlawful activities.
In an interview today, October 21, BCPO Deputy Director for Administration P/Supt Engelbert Soriano, said he is encouraging community participation in ensuring peace and order in every barangay.
While admitting that it is hard for the BCPO to attain the ideal ratio of 1 policeman for every 500 person, in a city populated by 500,000 permanent residents, tourists and ambulant students and workers, add up to the number and the BCPO is doing its best, Soriano said.
He said the BCPO is beefed up by 200 police recruits where 100 of them are from the Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO-Cor) and another 100 from the National Capital Region (NCR) who are currently on field training in the city.
Soriano said social responsibility is a key factor for peace and order to be maintained as he encouraged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person or activity in their area.
He also highlighted the importance of CCTV (closed-circuit TV) cameras in households and commercial establishments which will help in solving crimes.
According to Soriano, the common peace and order problems in Baguio City are physical injuries, mostly alcohol-related, theft and other street crimes, and robbery or forced entry. (PNA)
