MANILA, Oct. 16 (PNA) — Parts of Visayas and Bicol Region may experience possible flashflood and landslides in the next 24 hours due to occasional heavy rains brought by the low pressure area (LPA), the state weather bureau said on Thursday.
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Shelley Ignacio said that as of 4 p.m., the LPA was spotted some 190 km east of Borongan, eastern Samar (12.0˚N, 127.0˚E).
Ignacio, however, said the LPA has slim chance to intensify into tropical cyclone but the agency continues to monitor it.
Once it developed into tropical depression inside the PAR, it will be locally named “Paeng”, the 16th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the third for this month.
Ignacio said due to LPA, the Bicol region, eastern and central Visayas will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides while Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and western Visayas will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms until Friday.
She added Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains because of the presence of northeast monsoon while the rest of the country including Metro Manila will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.
In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and western Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas.
The weather bureau also issued a gale warning as the strong to gale force wind due to northeast monsoon is affecting the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon.
“Fisherfolks and those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards,” PAGASA warned. (PNA)
