MANILA, Oct. 16 (PNA) — Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Thursday said although 90 percent of the cancer cells were regressed based on her latest medical record, she is not yet physically fit to attend regular session which will start on Monday.
In her letter addressed to Senate President Franklin Drilon, Santiago admitted that “because of the characteristic debilitating fatigues that marks cancer, she is not yet 100 percent physically fit.”
“I have managed to discharge my duties as chair of certain Senate committees. In addition, I continue to file bills and resolutions on weekly basis. I have also managed to discharge some speaking obligations, on condition that the event will not last more than two hours which is my physical limit at this time,” Santiago said in her letter.
She claimed that her doctor told her that she is positively responding to the modern medicine she is taking and 90 percent of the cancer cells have regressed.
Her first diagnosis after several scans and laboratories more than four and half months ago shows that 70 percent of the cancer cells had regressed. In her latest tests after three months, it is now 90 percent regressed.
“I furnished a copy of this letter to the Senate Secretariat, with the request that my committee and other activities should be credited as official discharge of my Senate duties. I further request that this letter should be made part of my personal files, to prevent malicious comments about my Senate attendance,” she explained. (PNA)
