MANILA, Oct. 14 (PNA) — The Northern Luzon Command announced that two troopers were killed while three others wounded following an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) fighters in in Sitio Landing, Barangay Camandag, Asipulo town, Ifugao Tuesday morning.
All the casualties are from the 54th Infantry Battalion, Capt. Gina Daet, Northern Luzon Command spokesperson, said.
The incident took place around 7:30 a.m.
She said government troopers led by 1st Lt. James M. Carinan were conducting routine security patrols in the area in wake of rebel reports in the locality.
Heavy burst of gunfire met the patrolling soldiers, killing Pfc. James C. En-Ale and Pfc. Mark Anthony Patdu.
Wounded in the 25-minute firefight were Carinan, Pfc. John Ryl J. Discaya and Pfc. Raphy C. Anongos.
All three are in stable condition.
“The loss of our comrades is a proof of our desire to pursue the peace and order in this part of our country, even to the extent of sacrificing their own lives. This is part of our mandate,” said Northern Luzon Command chief, Lt. Gen. Felicito Virgilio M. Trinidad Jr..
“This will not hinder us in pursuing our mission to stop these lawless elements,” he added.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing. (PNA)
