Search for OWWA’s Model OFW Families 2014 now underway

Posted on October 13, 2014

MANILA, Oct 13 (PNA) — The season of honoring exceptional model OFW Families has just begun with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) announcing the two-phase search of Model OFW Family of Year Awards or MOFYA 2014.

Thirty-four winners — 17 for land-based and 17 for sea-based, will be declared OFW model families in the regional level. Regional awarding will be held from October 17 to October 22, 2014.

After the regional awards, winners will vie for the national title on December 4, 2014 with only two OFW families for land-based and sea-based categories to be adjudged Model OFW Families of the Year 2014. Judges will also confer three special awards, namely, the Outstanding OFW Family in Entrepreneurship, Outstanding OFW Family in Community Projects, and the OFW Family Circle of the Year.

MOFYA is an annual institutional event of OWWA that highlights the solidarity of the OFW family as one of the pillars of a stable Filipino society. One of the criteria is family values upheld and nurtured by the OFWs that resonate with the community. Judges will also consider the educational values espoused by the OFW family, as well as their achievements in managing financial resources while the OFW family member is abroad.

Last year’s national winners were Esmael M. Maulana and Family from Pidsandawa, Rayah Buayan, Maguindanao for the landbased category and Alberto Balbalan and Family of Barangay Lucaban, Burgos, Ilocos Sur for the seabased category. (PNA)
