MANILA, Oct. 13 (PNA) — To have an efficient management of traffic in the metropolis, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has separated the functions of the traffic management from the traffic enforcement.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the move will allow their personnel to have specialization.
“We want to enforce this reform for us to have an efficient service,” he said.
At present, the traffic management and enforcement functions are both being handled by MMDA traffic personnel.
Atty. Chris Saruca, head of MMDA’s Traffic Discipline Office (TDO), explained that under the new set-up, the Traffic management group will be in-charge of the supervision and control of traffic, while apprehending violators will now be designated to traffic enforcement group.
“Traffic management group’s function is management and control of traffic while traffic enforcement group apprehends the violators using OVR (Official Violation Receipt) tickets,” he said.
“For example, if there is a colorum bus, it will be apprehended by the enforcer but the traffic manager will stay to deal with traffic flow,” he explained.
Saruca said the deployment will be a combination of traffic enforcer and traffic manager. (PNA)
