Aboitiz Power Corp supports DOE conservation measures

Posted on October 11, 2014

MANILA, Oct. 10 (PNA) — Aboitiz Power Corporation is supporting the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) conservation efforts through an energy saving plan called “Cebu Unplugged.”

“We fully support the Department of Energy’s energy conservation efforts. We have already been doing it together with the ILP in the provinces and we are optimistic that through a united, nationwide effort, next year’s power shortage can be mitigated,” said AboitizPower President and COO Antonio Moraza in a news release.

“AboitizPower President and COO Antonio Moraza said that Visayan Electric Company (VECO), AboitizPower’s distribution utility in the Visayas, spearheaded Cebu’s own energy conservation program early this year, garnering the support of the Cebu local government, business establishments and the general public,” the company said in a news release Friday.

The “Cebu Unplugged” program comprises eight simple ways to save electricity: switch off the computer when not in use and use one gadget at a time, take a break from gadgets by reading a book or enjoying the company of family and friends, watch only favourite TV programs and turn off the TV while doing other activities, switching off lights when not in use, keeping the refrigerator door closed, washing clothes in one go, use airconditioner sparingly than electric fans and unplug all appliances when not in use.

The program was launched in Cebu through talks held with stakeholders from the local government, that passed a provincial resolution to support the conservation measures.

Aboitiz Power Corporation also held an energy forum to promote awareness on the current energy status of the country and inform the public on various way to save energy.

As additional incentives to those who will take part in the program, Aboitiz’s subsidiary VECO had given an award to Interruptible Load Program (ILP) participants.

Local girl and boy scouts, whom are called energy scouts, were part of the program to teach energy conservation in communities, schools and households.

The program was launched early last year and its pledge was attached on all household bills.(PNA)
