BSP to launch “Run for Coins” project in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan Oct. 10 (PNA) — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in coordination with the Pangasinan provincial government will conduct an activity dubbed as “Run for Coins” (RfC) on October 29 coinciding with National Statistics Month this October.

BSP Deputy Director Luzviminda Soriano said the holding of the project RfC aims to flush out unused coins and bring them back to circulation so that savings will be generated in coin production.

Soriano said this will also make the public get exact change in their transactions when they are buying from the store of paying their jeepney or bus fares.

To join the RfC, participants are advised to register on October 10, 13 and 14 at the BSP Dagupan Branch with Ms. Ana Liza Catan and Ms. Ma. Lourdes Manaois or at the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) in Lingayen.

Registration fee is P250, at least P50 of which must be composed of 25 centavo coins and one peso coins.

The registration fee will entitle each participant to an RfC shirt to be worn during the event, snacks and a raffle coupon.

The BSP said raffle prizes will also be at stake. The participants who registered on the aforementioned dates will receive their shirts, snacks and raffle coupons on October 29.

To ensure the success of this undertaking, Soriano has asked the assistance of the local government units (LGUs) in organizing the venue and route for the run as well as in disseminating the information in their respective areas.

Along with the registration form, each participant must sign a waiver for any injury, loss or damage incurred during the event.

Other activities already undertaken for the NSM celebration include the Statistical Exhibit at the National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) at the 2nd floor of Malong Building, Capitol compound from October 1 to 3.

October 2 saw the start of division level contests for secondary on oration in all Department of Education Divisions of Pangasinan; October 5-Bamboo Planting; October 7-oratorical contest-provincial level for secondary and tertiary levels; October 8-Regional Oratorical contest; and October 9- jingle-making, stat quiz, poster-slogan making and essay writing contest in DepEd Divisions.

October 10, 13 and 14 are slated for the registration for Run for Coins; October 10-tax education seminar; October 13-announcement of NSM calendar of activities during the flag-raising ceremony; October 13 and 14- jobs fair in Urdaneta City and Bugallon; October 14 to 17-first batch validation for the Search for The Most Statistically Developed LGUs;

October 15- provincial essay writing contest; October 16 provincial stat quiz; October 17-provincial poster-slogan making contest; October 20-poster and slogan making, essay writing and stat quiz-regional level; October 21 to 24-2nd batch validation Most Statistically Developed LGU; October 24- provincial jingle-making contest; October 29- Run for Coins; October 30-regional jingle-making contest and regional closing ceremony in La Union.

Award rites for NSM provincial winners will be announced soonest. This year’s celebration is spearheaded by NSM chair Amado I. Espino III. (PNA)
