PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Oct. 8 (PNA) -– Over forty million pesos is needed by the tourism industry in Palawan for further development next year, according to the province’s chief tourism operations office and chairman of the Economic Sector of the Provincial Development Council (PDC).
According to Provincial Information Officer Gil Acosta, a report made by Chief Tourism Operations Officer and Economic Sector chief Maribel Buñi on October 2 during the Annual Planning Conference of the PDC disclosed that in order for the provincial government to implement projects and programs for the tourism industry in Palawan in 2015, a total investment requirement of P40 million is needed.
The PIO chief said that in Buñi’s presentation, the programs lined up for implementation next year that need over P10 million are promotion of tourism services in the province, upgrading of the quality of tourism, improvement of tourism regulations and policies, as well as others.
The remaining budget, on the other hand, will be used for the “Bantay Turista Project,” where each barangay tanod (security) will be given the same authority that tourist police officers have.
This will be done to ensure the safety of foreign and domestic tourists, who go to their barangays for visits.
Acosta said her budget proposal was immediately accepted and approved by the PDC led by Governor Jose Alvarez.
In addition, the information officer also said that Alvarez related that he wants to have a project that would put airports in municipalities in Palawan, especially those frequently visited for easy access. (PNA)
