TACLOBAN CITY, Oct. 6 (PNA) — For students of the Tacloban National Agricultural School (TNAS), learning is easier now, following the completion of two school buildings funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Bethzaida A. Abella, 19 and a senior student, recalled the situation after the destruction of the super typhoon Yolanda.
“We really are in a hard situation after the typhoon; all the classrooms were destroyed”, said Abella.
According to her, even though storm surge did not hit their campus, the strong winds blew away all their learning materials and all school records they have kept for years.
“After I see the school, it’s like my whole world was turning down”, she added.
Abella, on the other hand cannot measure her happiness after seeing the newly constructed buildings in their school.
“I am very happy and thankful to USAID that we were chosen to be one of the recipients of the building of class rooms,” she said.
She added that it would motivate the students to study harder to reach their goals in life.
Abella further said that the help USAID given in a school which is located in a remote area like TNAS, would always mean that they are well remembered.
Flordelis Tabaranza, school principal, said that the fear of being in a difficult situation during rains and typhoons come is now gone since the buildings constructed can withstand the strongest earthquakes and strong typhoons like Yolanda.
She assured that they will maintain the buildings donated to them. According to her, it is not the amount of money that matters but the help and time USAID have given to them.
“We, the TNAS Family will treasure and take good care of the buildings,” said Tabaranza.
TNAS is located at Basper village in this city with a 600 student population this academic year. (PNA)
